Project Brief: The Kailasanathar Temple in Kanchipuram, a significant example of Dravidian architecture, has been adopted by Cholamadalam Investment and Finance Company under the ‘Smarak Sarathi’ Scheme of the Adopt a Heritage 2.0 Program by the Archaeological Survey of India. This initiative aims to enhance visitor experience while preserving the temple’s cultural and historical integrity.

The project commenced with a well-researched vision document, followed by the preparation of a detailed project report. Case-specific issue identification and proposal development were undertaken to address conservation needs and visitor engagement strategies. Tasks such as detailed digital documentation, stakeholder discussions, and Heritage Impact Assessments were conducted to ensure a comprehensive and informed approach to the project.

With a holistic and inclusive strategy, the on-site implementation is currently in progress. This phase focuses on improving overall user experience through strategic interventions, including enhanced lighting and accessibility improvements. The project also aims to re-establish and enrich access to the temple’s rich historical and cultural narratives, ensuring that visitors gain a deeper appreciation of this heritage site. By balancing modern enhancements with strict conservation principles, the initiative ensures that the temple’s legacy is preserved for future generations.
