Project Scope: Documentation of Site; Assessment of Structural and Physical Condition.

Client: The Claridges Hotels and Resorts, New Delhi

Project Brief: Located on the outskirts of Bharatpur city, on the edge of the Bharatpur-Agra highway, the Moti Mahal Complex is an exceptional example of a confluence of British-Rajput architecture. The complex which until recently served as the rence of the Maharaja of Bharatpur is proposed to be converted into a heritage hotel. The complex has several significant structures in varying states of disrepair and disuse and will be restored in the near future. The report had been commissioned by the Claridges Hotels and Resorts to comprehensively record various structures of the Moti Mahal Complex. The report documents the Moti Mahal in three main sections: 1. Documentation and research 2. Assessment of structural damage and physical condition 3. Architectural drawings and details A detailed documentation and analysis of the site’s history and its context and a comprehensive assessment of its present physical condition. The objective of the document is to serve as a useful resource for any conservation work or adaptive reuse of the building. It not only provides historic but also documents the architectural form, styles and transitions thus becoming an essential base document for all restoration, reuse and interpretation works undertaken at the site.
