Nomination Dossier and management plan for Jantar Mantar, Jaipur

Project Scope: Preparation of secondary plans including Interpretation, Use and Visitor Management Plan, Comprehensive Mobility Plan, Comprehensive Landscape and Environment Management Plan under the Management plan for Jantar Mantar, Jaipur.

Client: Department of Archaeology & Museums and Amber Development and Management Authority (ADMA)

Project Brief: Jantar Mantar was proposed for inscription on World Heritage in 2009.

To ensure that the OUV of the site is maintained and to ensure a sustainable and integrated development of the site, a Management Plan was formulated for a period of five years from January 2009 to December 2013 along with preparation of dossier.

Since July 2009 the Management Plan was updated to accommodate conditions to be fulfilled and recommendations of the World Heritage Committee for inscription as a World Heritage Site. These included the expansion of the buffer zone, assigning implementation of the Management Plan to Amber Development and Management Authority with involvement of Archaeological Survey of India in order to facilitate coordinated management of the property and its buffer zone and revision of the Action Plan with a framework of proposed plans to be prepared under the framework of the Conservation Plan and the Management Plan.

The Management Plan also includes a number of secondary plans including environmental and landscape plan, comprehensive mobility (Transport) plan and interpretation and visitor management plan for the site which are under implementation phase since 2011 onward.

Project Status: Inscribed as World Heritage Monument in 2010; Implementation ongoing since 2011
