Dossier and Management Plan for Hill Forts of Rajasthan

Project Scope: Preparation of Nomination Dossier and Management Plan for UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Client: Department of Archaeology & Museums, Rajasthan

Project Brief: The ‘Hill Forts of Rajasthan’ is a serial property formed by 6 sites in the northwestern state of Rajasthan in India, each strategically built and located on the oldest mountain range, the Aravallis and the Vindhyan in the region and each as a representative of the medieval defense settlements of the Rajput warrior clans. These sites Chittorgarh Fort, Kumbhalgarh Fort, Amber Fort, Gagron Fort, Ranthambore Fort collectively constitute the most authentic, t conserved and most representative sites of Rajput military architecture of Rajasthan region. The initial dossier including 5 forts was prepared while the sixth fort of Jaisalmer which was not included initially due to management problems was added later in 2013 by Sanrakshan.

Project Cost: Implementation of Management Plans cost above Rs. 12 Crore in Phase 1

Project duration: September 2010 - July 2011

Project Status: Inscribed as World Heritage Site in 2013
